Today, I was shopping at my workplace, out of uniform, with my husband. A customer recognised me and wanted me to serve him, but I couldn't since we can be fired for doing so while off-duty. He complained to my manager, who wasted no time publicly bitching me out. FML

So wait, the person who is in authority, and should know the rules complains that you follow the rules? I think we know who really needs firing here!

What kind of ass hole customer demands that you work off the clock? It's not only against your work policy, it's illegal. Carefully explain to your boss that if he wants you to work off the clock that you can contact labor and industries, get your store fined, and that he would lose his job over it.

Why the hell should you serve when you are off duty!

I hope you bitched right back considering you were off the clock! I would've.

Call HR general managers fear them like kids fear spinach.

I hate a customer do me fairly the same way at subway. I was off the clock and out of uniform and she recognizes me and starts complaining about a coworker because she ordered the wrong sub and somehow he should have known what she actually wanted and then yells at me for being disrespectful after telling her to stop calling my coworker an "it" (he's a guy, always has been). And tried to file complaints on both of us and told me "you fast workers don't care about anyone but yourselves, you're all selfish", as I stand in front of her in full volunteer firefighter attire. Needless to say she was asked not to come back and our manager laughed at her with us.
