Today, I was sitting in a café when I dropped my phone. After ages searching the floor for it, I realised it had dropped into the lady behind me's bag. She looked terrifying, so I thought I'd wait until she went to the bathroom. She never did, and I ended watching her walk out, with my phone. FML

You drop your phone, judge her on only her appearance, and then decide to risk rummaging around in her purse instead rather than just asking. YDI.

What could she do? It's not like she was going to bite you or something. Sorry op ydi for not growing a pair and asking for your phone back.

YDI. You should have explained the situation instead of judging her based on her appearance

Even if she had gone to the bathroom why would she have left her bag sitting on the floor?

I have been reading this blog for years, and this is the one post that made me finally need to comment. I'm sorry OP but there is so much fail in this and you really deserved it. 1. It was foolish of you to let all this happen just because "she looked terrifying". As other posters have said, what's the worst that could happen? Would she bite you? Even if she made a scene I'm sure an employee would have backed you up. 2. Even though your phone was in her bag, wouldn't you think reaching into her bag would make YOU look bad and get you into more unneeded trouble? 3. Even if she did run to the bathroom, I doubt she would leave her bag out at the table where it could be taken our rummaged through. 4. You were too cowardly to fix this EASILY fixable situation. Scary or not, all you had to do was tell her what happened and ask for it back. That easy.

You realize that's a terrible plan. firstly what if she brought her bag to the bathroom too? Some people do that. Secondly and more important too, let's say she left her bag. anyone that sees you go over and get your phone from her bag is gonna assume you stole it and get security or some form of authority to rain down upon you. Next time, just go ask for your phone back.

I fact not only YDI but you probably scared her! Imagine going home and finding a random phone in you purse!
