I would see your point if she wouldnt have waltzed into IHOP with her child in tow. Thats not exactly the safest way to tell your boyfriend you have a child. If she was protecting the child, she would have told the boyfriend after six months, not shown him! I fully agree that single parents should hold off on having their significant others meet their child(ren). If I were to take your argument one step further, I would say that a single parent shouldnt date at all because it would be putting their child in danger. As a single parent I rarely date. If I date someone that I dont already know, or have common friends with, I take other precautions to protect myself and my child.
