Today, I was Skyping with a guy I'm really into. I'm not supposed to Skype at night, so when I heard my mum coming, I minimized the window. She walked in before I could mute my mic and started bitching me out for flushing my tampons down the toilet. FML

I don't understand how she deserves it unless her family has a septic tank...maybe? I've flushed my tampons since I've started and there is nothing on the box that says don't flush them (just don't flush the applicator...but y'know, duh). Tampons don't just infinitely expand, that's why there are different absorption levels so I don't see it getting big enough to block a toilet pipe.

What kind of brand do you use? Because all packages I've seen have some sort of warning to not flush down, and it hasn't happened to you yet then you're just lucky.

I have also never seen this warning. In fact the ones I used to use actually stated you could flush them.

Exactly. The only thing I've ever seen instructions say to not flush is the applicator. The directions say that someone can either flush or trash the tampon itself- whichever one prefers. Septic tanks and small toilets will obviously be at risk of issues should a tampon be flushed, but that's about it.
