Today, I was tending the cash register. I scanned a lady's items which totaled $89.68. She paid with a $100 bill. I gave her $11.32 change. She angrily gave back the extra dollar and complained about "schools nowadays". I'm an AP Calculus student. FML

Today, I rang up a customer’s items. The total came out to $24.67. She handed me a bag full of coins and looked at me expectantly. I asked if she had any other payment methods; she got irritated and said ,“If I did, I wouldn’t have given you this, stupid!” I had to count them. She was still 6 dollars short. FML

Today, at my retail job, a woman came to my till with her purchases. After I scanned all her items, she handed me two small bags. One was filled with nickels and dimes. The other was filled with cents. Her total was $28.53. The coins amounted to $22.30. FML

Today, a McDonald's employee had to correct my math after counting out $2.37 in change. I'm in AP Calculus and am currently learning how to find the derivative of an inverse of a logarithm. FML

Today, a lady handed me a $10 tip on a $45 bill. I was happy with it, since it was more than 20%, until she came back in and said, "I'm sorry I gave you the wrong amount." I handed it back to her and then she gave me a dollar. FML

Today, I was working my job as a waitress near my college. I handed a customer her check, and she noticed that I had added her bill wrong. I apologized, and she pointed to my "student" labeled nametag, asking what I was studying. I said English. I'm a math major. FML

Today, I was cashiering, and a customer's change came to $5.51. She looked pretty stinking rich, so I just gave her $5.50. She demanded the extra penny, and I asked if she really needed it. She said, "No, but they do, asshole," and dropped her $5.51 in the charity donation box. FML

Today, I was shopping at the grocery market and was next in line. Behind me was a woman who only had two items, so I nicely let her in front of me, as it looked like she was in a hurry. When she was all rung up, she decided to pay her $16.45 in loose change which needed to be counted out. FML

Today, I handed a middle-aged woman her change of $0.75 with three quarters. She looked at the change bewildered and threw the coins down, asking if she thought I could get away with only giving her thirty cents. I had to explain to her how much a quarter is worth. FML

Today, I was working in the box office. A group came in for tickets but wanted to pay individually. One paid $40 for a $25 ticket. Laughing, I reached for the calculator while saying, "I went to public school, so I can't do math." They didn't laugh. They were all teachers in public schools. FML

Doesn't the cash register tell you how much change to give? You may want to reconsider your major if reading 4 (four) numbers on a screen is confusing.

k idk y she gave it back, I would have kept it, but you were REALLY stupid in doing that. 1st of all, the cash register tells u how much money to give, so u should probably look at it next time. 2nd, my lil brother in 3rd grade figured how much money her change would be, so u def. should not be in advanced classes

I can imagine that. I'm an AP Calculus student (I am also from Tennessee, ironically enough) and the one thing that I have noticed deteriorates more than anything is a calculus student's ability to do basic arithmetic. You all should not be rude, all AP courses are at least as challenging as a freshman college course and credit is not guaranteed, so this person took the class at large financial and academic risk.

So speaks the poster of said FML (Who has since gotten an FML account): 1)The whole point of the FML is that I DID make the idiot mistake. Trust me. I know. 2) The register usually tells you how much to give back... unless they use a coupon (stupid flaw). Which she did. 3) To those of you who say it's me bragging or that I will get nowhere in life. I wasn't trying to brag at all. And I am around 100% sure that I will be making twenty times more than you in about 5 years. Thank you, knack for Chemistry and admission Stanford. Peace.

maybe one dollar got stuck to another dollar on accident. now you don't have to do the math in your head for change, the register just shows you and we don't know if the OP used like a 5 dollar bill and tried to get five one's. people really like to rip into each other over stupid things...
