Don't beat yourself up too much. Just ... 1. Apologize. Profusely. 2. If there's any doubt, make sure she doesn't think it was deliberate. I know that wouldn't make sense, but if she's having a hard time, she may not be thinking straight 3. Do what you would have done if you had remembered : Ask if she's OK, wants to talk about it, etc. Keep in mind, you're dealing with a random FML thing, she's thinking about her late father. 4. Try really hard not to make the same mistake again.

Ugh...this reminds me of this time in geometry. This kid, Devin was leaving the room to go down to the office and as he was walking out, I said the line from the movie ELF that went "Bye buddy, hope you find your dad" I then remembered his dad died years before. I just stopped at "Bye buddy" then remembered his dad was dead. I still feel bad for it even though I didnt say "hope you find ur dad". I would hate myself for life If i said that last part.....IDI >_

This happened to me. I was walking with two friends at school and it was mothers day and i said to one of them 'what did you get your mum?' she answered then i asked the other and it just went dead silent then i realized her mum was dead so i quickly changed the subject. it doesn't mean your a bad friend it just means you forget these things sometimes.

A lot of times i type things through instinct, naturally when one tells another of a family members birthday, our instinct is to send our wishes. I would take it as an honest mistakrme and laugh it off, i dont think your a bad friend at all
