For me bipolar doesn't mean being bitchy all the time when I was younger with bipolar I would cry at everything and most people think they don't have it when my doctor said its one of the most common things to have out there
A lot of times, bi polar disorder isn't diagnosed until late in a person's life.
I was diagnosed at age 34 with ADHD. Last week. Much of those 34 years have been spent studying & working in the field of mental health as well as having my own counselling/psychotherapy with a number of practitioners, and nobody realised. Hard not to wonder what life would've been like with an earlier diagnosis!
I was diagnosed a few years ago. I thought I was bipolar for a couple years before that and my mom and ex-boyfriend refused to believe I was, though my mom let me go to my psychiatrist anyway. So I had to be diagnosed before anyone decided to believe me.

That's what being bi-polar is. I'm bi-polar. If I don't take my pills I'm a dick half the time.
Just because her mom knows her doesn't mean she lives with her.
