Today, I was told there was a bench warrant out for my arrest because a notice to appear for jury duty was sent to my old address and I never responded. I haven't lived at my old address for 2 years. FML

If you can prove that you haven't lived there in 2 years maybe they can clear it up? It was just a misunderstanding after all.

Wow.........sounds like the state I live in

After reading this website for years, I made an account to tell you what a ******* moron you are. Jury pools come from voter registration, which usually comes from your drivers license. So at worst, you've been driving around illegally for 2 years, since you didn't bother to update your license. At best, or maybe at worst depending how you look at it, you aren't legally registered to vote. Not only is it your responsibility to follow the law with that, it is your civic duty to serve when called, and I say that as someone who hated the 4 months I had to serve. I really hope you get arrested. Maybe next time you won't bitch about being stupid and leave room for the funny FMLs. So YDI.

Calm down a bit, yeah? I remember my mother having a terrible time convincing the court in our old county that we no longer lived there when they attempted to call her up for duty; luckily, we lived in a parsonage and the preacher who replaced my dad sent the summons to our new parish. We moved about a year prior and after the move my parents both changed their licenses and voted in our new county. Sometimes stuff happens, especially when the government is involved.

Or maybe she was under 18 when she lived at her old address, then moved out after she turned 18 and missed the voting deadline, which would be why she isn't registered. Or perhaps she doesn't have a license. Not everyone does. Pull the stick out and calm down.

Administrative changes go wrong or don't happen at all a lot too. Bureaucracy is this beautiful thing where you can change your address multiple times and they still get it wrong.

Jury pools come from multiple sources, not just voter registrations (how else do you think kids and dogs get the occasional summons? It also would discourage some people from registering if it only came from there). Also, voter registration is separate from your license/state ID and you can have one without the other. In order to vote, you have to register to vote; you don't just vote after you obtain your license/ID.

Here's a crazy thought: what if the GOVERNMENT screwed up instead of her?

were do you live? I have gotten hundreds of jury duty summons and I have never had a warrant for my arrest.

Oh, hundreds? How old are you, 250? Where I live they can only summon you once a year(unless you were able to postpone it).

I believe the correct term is "dipshit", and I couldn't tell whether you were exaggerating or not. Where I live, you can get as many jury summons as they assign you. There are people in my town that have had over 100 jury summons. Don't act like a dipshit.

You're supposed to change your address on your voter registration info when you move, just like you're supposed to change your address on your driver's license. Kinda your fault.

That shit should come certified mail. This is why we shouldn't trust the government to take care of anything. They've ruined social security, the post office, the whole damn thing is shut down now, and now they think they're smart enough to take care of my medical care. Screw that. And now they're issuing bench warrants while my neighbors were cooking meth. Guess they're too damn busy to solve real problems.

the republicans hate government and want to make it fail, so every chance they get they sabotage things. Example being the post office, the post office had a surplus, the republicans in congress found out a few years ago and change the law so the post office has to pre-fund their retirement plans so far into the future to cover employees who arne't even hired yet. the predictable result is the post office is now horribly strapped for cash, but congress won't let them raise postage so all they can do is cut service so it's crappy and everyone wants to "deregulate" the mail because the post office is doing badly.

My cousin lives in the house I lived in 8 YEARS AGO!! He called me the other day to tell me the Sheriffs Dept. came by to pick me up because I didn't show up for jury duty. Lol. I've lived in two other states since then. I have filed changes of address and voter registration forms both times.
