Today, I was walking down the street when a "homeless" man asked for money. I gave him a dollar and he got up and called his friend on an iPhone. FML

Ok to clear things up, I was walking home and he asked for money. He looked, and even SMELLED like a homeless person. Sure enough, I gave him money and all of a sudden he got up and started walking and I saw him take out an iPhone 5 and call his friend. I heard him say, "Lol dude it worked!" Sorry I wrote so much ._. And no he was NOT really homeless

so based on these comments there must be some place where you can present an iPhone and be handed an apartment and a job to pay for it. where is this place? I would love to find such a place in case I lose my job, I would then buy an iPhone and trade it in for a job.

as was previously mentioned he may very well have had that phone before things got rough, he may need that phone to apply for jobs or apartments, or to keep in contact with people so they know he's not dead... the other day there was a deal at a phone store in my area iPhone for free with a contract, not overly challenging. I wouldn't be so quick to judge, you don't know him or his story. yes there are some lying scum that pull stuff like this, but there are just as many who honestly need the help.

Why I never give homeless money. I offer them food & buy it myself. But they still take advantage. I have a guy my lunch I made early that morning for school & as I watched him across the street. He took one bite & threw it in the trash. I think that should be my FML story

This is why I don't give homeless people money. I'll gladly buy food for them, but I won't give them cash. Too many of them are either just crooks, or will just use the money for drugs or alcohol. They ruin it for everyone else.

Personally I don't care if they buy alcohol with money I gave them. You know why not? If you're addicted to alcohol, quitting drinking CAN KILL YOU. In fact a couple of years ago doctors were telling people to keep drinking because there weren't enough beds in detox units in case something went wrong.
