Today, I was walking through the main lobby at school and I saw someone waving at me, so I waved back. Turns out she was just cleaning a glass door. I heard laughter behind me. FML

I think everybody made that mistake before.

Way to be courteous and wave!

Common mistake. It actually is funny, and I'd be laughing at myself if I did that.

Everyone does this OP. I waved at someone the other day because I thought they were waving at me and they gave me a really weird look. I just blushed and giggled it off.

I don't always wave at people, but when I do they are cleaning glass doors.

I don't always reply to comments, but when I do the commenter looks like a Justin Bieber wannabe

This made me laugh. I also have done the same thing.

Ahhh, yes. I have done that far too many times. I usually end up trying to play it cool and let the waving hand drop to my hair, pretending I'm just taming the beast that is my coif. Is it believable? Probably not. Does it make me feel better? Ever so slightly.

Dude, seriously, nobody noticed. I do that ALL THE TIME. Mostly because I keep assuming people are waving at me even though they never do. But the thing is, if they're not waving at you, they're not paying any attention to you and probably don't care. Even if they are, it's not like they're going to remember it the next day. You're not as important as you like to think you are. SO FEEL BETTER, DAMMIT.

You must have missed the part in the story where there was laughter behind him. People noticed, and OP was embarrassed. It may have been a big deal to him.

Wouldn't she have had something in her hand to clean with, like a sponge or a rag, which you could have used to discern if she was waving at you or not.... Nevertheless, don't worry about it OP, we've all been there!
