Today, I was working with the kid I babysit for. We were out and he complained that he was hungry. I spent my very last $2 on chicken nuggets for him and a coffee for myself. Just as I sat down, he knocked over my coffee, spilling it into his chicken nuggets. Then he cried for over an hour. FML

How funny, when I worked at a daycare enter the kids LOVED dipping their chicken nuggets in milk, no joke. But yeah, kids are midget devils

This, they should've left money for if he wanted something to eat or drink. But hey, that he cried atleast ment he was sorry!

Your very last 2$? Somehow I don't believe you.

I think OP means the last two dollars they had with them at the time. Not the last two dollars they have to their name. Those two dollars are invested in the stock market, which, right now, makes them worth more like 25 cents.

Have you ever been a teenager?! We generally don't have much money, which is why we take crappy jobs like babysitting. Having only two bucks left is very believable.

Sometimes parents will give you food to give to the kids, but they never give food money unless the kid needs to be on a very specific diet (such a a baby who hasn't progressed to solid foods yet, or a child with severe and/or obscure allergies), and even then they usually just bring the food over and don't give you money. It's expected that you are the one to pay for the kids food. If you know you can't, then you tell him to wait while you go home and make something there. I know that's usually not the easiest option, because hungry kids get rather whiney, but sometimes it the most reasonable. I am sorta impressed with him though for being able to focus on something so minor for so long. I'm sure for OP today it was bad that she couldn't distract him, but most little kids don't have that kind of attention span and someday when he's not crying that'll probably be useful.

What was a child doing within reaching distance of coffee?

Seriously? Kid FML's always have some ridiculous comment about well "why was your 5 yr old unsupervised for 2 minutes!" I wonder if anyone who posts them actually applies those principles to raising their own child. Constant eye contact, cover sharp edges until they are 15, no playing outside without knee-pads shit. These coddling-style child raising is going to lead to some future adults with serious dependency/wuss issues. In case that was a serious question: A. He was most likely in reaching distance of the coffee because they were seated at the same table. Where would you prefer she kept her coffee?

You have to admit though, the "spinach" kid FML, the parent should of been paying attention. Here though, Compass's statement is just plain dumb.

Exactly. I babysat for ten years and no one EVER expected me to pay to feed their children. There was one occasion where I was babysitting over the weekend and the parents had left money for food and activities, but the parents ended up being detained for an extra day so there wasn't enough money, and they reimbursed me for his activities and food for that extra day. I would never babysit if a parent expected me to pay for their child's food and activities. That defeats the whole purpose of babysitting as a job. Of course, that's not to say that if I think the kid has been particularly good, I won't treat him or her to a movie or ice skating, but that's my own choice.

I wish $2 could buy chicken nuggets AND a coffee here lol

aw, iwork at mc.d's...& im guessing you went to one because the small coffee is currently 1$ and chicken nuggets are $1.29...before tax...so i know you ddnt spend your "last 2$" because your total would have been $2.52...[this is wat happens when you work there for 3years people]...anyways ; they should have replaced them, no problem. you just didnt ask.

Wow, we're all impressed by your McDonald's expertise. Did it ever occur to you that in the context of a story, someone saying they spent their last $2 instead of getting really specific and saying they spent their last $2.52 is just taking creative liberties for the sake of simplifying the story?

No, Flounder. The OP is meant to remember EXACTLY how much they paid for their meal down to the penny and make sure to post it in their FML because all of us are dying to know.

Chicken nuggets are on the dollar menu here!

More like thank goodness he didn't get burned by the coffee. You watch kids and don't have enough sense to bring a snack when you leave the house?
