Today, I went home after work with my best friend who I am also secretly in love with. We had a few drinks, were getting touchy, and one thing led to another. Before leaving, I got the courage to ask her out on a real date. Her only reply was, "I don't want to lose such a good friend." FML

I didn't have an account when I posted this, but I'm the OP, and honestly, during our drunken state, I mustered up enough sobriety to prevent things from going too far. I as well, didn't want to ruin things between us by having sex because I respected her too much, and wanted more than that. Was it the right thing to do, or was I just being a dumbass? One commenter was correct in stating that she was confused as to what she really wanted. Either way, we've talked it out, and moved over that. It's better anyways maybe, considering we both work together and I have to go on months long deployments with this girl, haha. :]

Sorry OP, she's not attracted to you in that way and it's probably because you two are friends. It doesn't make her a bitch and she's not going to string you along in the so-called "friend zone." She was upfront about not going out with you and doesn't plan on stringing you along. Just forget her and move on. Talk to her less if you feel it'll help the process.

you don't get it when a girl says that it doesn't mean that she doesn't like you, it means that you mean a whole to her. you can argue all you want, but the truth is most of the time when relationships turn out bad good friends turn into strangers, and that really sucks. I know that dating might be the best thing that happened to either one of you but losing a best friend over a failed relationship is so much worse. so op don't think for a second she doesn't care about you because the truth is she really cares and values your friendship. you should appreciate that.
