Today, I went to a birthday party for my friend's daughter. I picked up a gift for the girl and another for her parents. I got the mother a cute little garden stone that read "What our children see in the world depends on what we show them." Later, I found out her daughter is blind. FML

I'm assuming that you didn't know her well enough to know she had a blind daughter... that plus the fact that the message is clearly figurative should get you off the hook loll just don't make a big scene about it with her and you should be fine :)

Personally, I find the phrase to be even more relevant when the daughter is blind.

i happen to this is have a significance that the mother's relationship with the daughter is much about trust. The daughter probably uses her mom to help figure stuff out, I think you're just overreacting

I'm blind from birth and I still use words like "look" and "see". I "watch" TV and "look over" braille magazines. I get really annoyed with people who try to change their normal vernacular around me as if I'll be offended by visual words.

@45: LMAO. I didn't know they made braille computer monitors!!

Way to come off as a complete ignorant ****! There are different degrees of blindness, and there are programs to have text read aloud.

I also think it can be a nice message, since her parents are the eyes she has to "see" the world.

I agree with the people like #11 who said it means even more if she is blind. I don't think it's offensive at all, not really a FML. It seems pretty relevant to give to someone with a blind daughter.

I think that's actually really beautiful and profound, even if it was an accident. If they didn't appreciate it, its their problem for being daft.

I think it's a positive message for a little blind girl. Maybe she can't actually see, but she can be shown things.

It's the thought that counts, i'm sure you didn't know her daughter was blind.
