Today, I went to a birthday party for my friend's daughter. I picked up a gift for the girl and another for her parents. I got the mother a cute little garden stone that read "What our children see in the world depends on what we show them." Later, I found out her daughter is blind. FML

I'm assuming that you didn't know her well enough to know she had a blind daughter... that plus the fact that the message is clearly figurative should get you off the hook loll just don't make a big scene about it with her and you should be fine :)

Personally, I find the phrase to be even more relevant when the daughter is blind.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. It was a nice gesture and I would guess that most parents in a situation like that would understand, especially if it's not something they advertised (which by you not knowing it sounds like they didn't). I think at this point it's a fact of life for them, and I highly doubt they were insulted.

The word "see" in that saying does not refer to eyesight.

What 35 said. this is metaphorical and inspirational. if you think she sees nothing, then its offensive, but if you "see" that theres more to seeing than sight, this message is inspirational and takes on a different meaning

lack of communication between u and ur friend?

That's a really odd saying to put on a stone.

There are so many of these goddamn FMLs that have to do with not knowing the person who they're buying these grand gifts and shit for.

shouldnt u have known ur friends daughter was blind??

Why are people so touchy about using the word "see" around/about a blind person. There are more than one way to see.

you know, i think that the sign is a great gift to have in the house with the blind daughter. It has a special meaning and it fits really well.
