Today, I went to buy lunch at a grocery store. The total was 3 pounds, and my card got rejected for insufficient funds. I fished about for change, and found I only had 2 pounds. A homeless man behind me in the queue then offered to give me the remaining pound. A homeless man paid my lunch. FML

faentalivetmitt tells us more.

Hi everyone, I'm the one who posted this. First of all. Of course I thanked him! and of course I could have gotten a cheaper lunch, I was going to in fact, but he offered, and insisted, so I accepted, and was very thankful. All of you who keep saying I'm a heartless bitch should have considered that I was commenting on the irony of it and that I was embarassed, instead of saying how my life sucked because someone was nice to me. I thought it was a funny story. I got the impression that many of the stories on this site are funny rather than tragic. I could of course have written he gave it to me and i was super thankful etc etc, but I thought that was kind of implied. Oh and about the currency. My lunch was 31 kroner. But as I currently live and study in the UK, i'm used to thinking in pounds and thought that would be easier for the majority of FML readers. But apparently that makes me a fake, sorry guys! And I do in fact give money to charity and homeless people. Not long ago I gave one man my last 8 pounds (this was in the UK), so he could buy a decent meal, figuring I would be OK until I got home 5 hours later. So those of you who got the irony and embarassement, thanks!

The homeless are worth more than the vast majority of people because they have no debt. So everything they have is 'worth'. You really oughta post this on MyLifeIsBlessed.com

I really wanna kick you in your ******* throat. Someone, who you are no better than, helped you pay for your lunch. How the **** is that a FML? Could you be more shallow and ungrateful?

OP, never bite the hand that feeds you (literally in this case).

See that you repay the kindness to someone in need the next time the opportunity arises. Paying it forward is a great way create a little good and happiness in the world. Besides, how would you have felt in his position? Once again: All those wanting to ride my ass about my comments- All Aboard! I have installed handrails!!

does this shout "fake" to anyone else? and, if it's real, bitch, you should be grateful someone helped you, not pissed cause "a homeless guy" paid for your lunch. he didn't have to! sheesh. people.

BTW, I dont think OP means to be ungrateful, but think about it ppl. How ****** is your life if someone WHO IS BROKE is having to bail ur ass out?

I'm glad I finally read a comment where someone understands where the OP was coming from. Doubt that he or she was meaning to come across as ungrateful... just embarrassed.

saze it doesnt matter that poor man probaly had no money but that money and he was sweet enough to give that money to her so big freakin deal lady someone was bein nice to u even though u think ur to good for all of them

I think the OP understandably feels like shit that she couldn't even afford a $5 lunch and had to be bailed out by someone who is supposedly destitute. I don't think she thinks she is better than the homeless guy at all.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. I'm pretty sure she thinks her life is ****** because she doesn't have money. "insufficient funds" I don't think this is her being ungrateful at all. She's just using the fact that a homeless man, who we usually see as a symbol of no money, has more money than her. THAT'S why her life is ****** Prudes.

she also came off as pretty much saying that she thinks she's better than this homeless guy that bailed her out

Neither a FML or a YDI, you were lucky enough to have someone help you and bail you out of an embarrassing situation. I think it's incredibly sweet that someone who has so little is willing to share that small amount with a complete stranger. I hope you thanked him profusely.
