Today, I went to buy lunch at a grocery store. The total was 3 pounds, and my card got rejected for insufficient funds. I fished about for change, and found I only had 2 pounds. A homeless man behind me in the queue then offered to give me the remaining pound. A homeless man paid my lunch. FML

Hi everyone, I'm the one who posted this. First of all. Of course I thanked him! and of course I could have gotten a cheaper lunch, I was going to in fact, but he offered, and insisted, so I accepted, and was very thankful. All of you who keep saying I'm a heartless bitch should have considered that I was commenting on the irony of it and that I was embarassed, instead of saying how my life sucked because someone was nice to me. I thought it was a funny story. I got the impression that many of the stories on this site are funny rather than tragic. I could of course have written he gave it to me and i was super thankful etc etc, but I thought that was kind of implied. Oh and about the currency. My lunch was 31 kroner. But as I currently live and study in the UK, i'm used to thinking in pounds and thought that would be easier for the majority of FML readers. But apparently that makes me a fake, sorry guys! And I do in fact give money to charity and homeless people. Not long ago I gave one man my last 8 pounds (this was in the UK), so he could buy a decent meal, figuring I would be OK until I got home 5 hours later. So those of you who got the irony and embarassement, thanks!

it should have been like this..." Today i could not afford my lunch but i acutaly could instead of giving to the homeless i took from the homeless" everyone gasps " wat its not like hes not eatin for days" i agree with almost everyone this lady is a selfich hoe

Insufficient funds on card? Check. Insufficient cash in wallet? Check. Too much wanton spending on useless crap prior to this incident? Almost certainly. Perhaps you should consider hitting up the welfare bread lines, seeing as when you needed help to pay for a meal a homeless person had the wherewithal to assist you. Hopefully you had the common decency to blow him in an alley afterward.

I agree with #61 - everyone is being really stupid. She's embarrassed, not ungrateful. In fact, she probably FEELS like she's being ungrateful or selfish because it's basically like she took money from a homeless man when she is probably better off. Look at it this way: how would you feel if a homeless man paid for YOUR lunch? Grateful, sure, but wouldn't you feel a bit guilty? OP - The man seems very nice, I hope you thanked him profusely. But seriously, you couldn't have just gone back and got a cheaper lunch instead?

How the hell is the FML? Honestly, that's so nice of the homeless man to pay a part of your lunch. Like I understand you'd be embarrassed, but for your to say **** My Life that a homeless man GAVE UP his money, not like he has a lot, to pay for your lunch. I agree, this should be on MyLifeIG! A person you didn't even know helped you pay for your lunch. Let alone a homeless man who doesn't have much to begin with. You shouldn't complain. The homeless man should post, "Today, I paid for a woman's lunch and she thinks HER life is ******. I try and be nice and SHE complains. FML." I at least hope you gave him a very big thank you and offered to pay him back.

Sounds like you're on the wrong site...MyLifeIG would be better for this. A homeless man/stranger helped pay for your lunch. No need to say your life is ****** because a man was extremely nice to you.
