Actually, nurses cannot diagnose. The nurse can get in trouble for that.
Been there. A doctor kept telling me that I either had strep or allergies, and as the strep test came back negative I was "fine." I kept getting sicker, and sicker, and ended up going back twice more that week. No other doctors were ever available until my fourth visit, when I forced my way into an appointment because I was no longer able to swallow. Turns out I had mono, tonsilitis and a sinus infection. My throat was so swollen I had to be hospitalized and almost had to be intubated.
It unfortunately happens. I was told for three months I had allergies and I should stop wasting their time. Turns out I had bronchitis and it got to the point (at the my fourth appointment with a different doctor) she couldn't even hear my breathing with a stethoscope.
Ain't no body got time for that.
To get the right balance. Its easier just to buy saline at the store.
I once had bronchitis for 3 months, they didn't diagnose me with it. Made sure to run blood tests and get up a biopsy appointment in case it was cancerous ? Doesn't make sense, I know. Hope you feel better soon! That was in South Dakota too if that says anything about the healthcare up that way, smh.
Damn
I remember about half a year ago I had a nasty cough for four weeks straight. Went into the Urgent Care in my town and they prescribed me antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection. When the cough didn't get any better after a week I went to my doctor. Turned out I had walking pneumonia. Not full blown like yours, but still not a very pleasant experience. Sorry to hear that you had an awful experience though, OP. I hope you get better soon!
It's common to poke suspected appendicitis. Well, put pressure on it. When you apply pressure, it usually starts to feel better but when you let off, it gets worse. My daughter gets abdominal migraines and the doctors are always pushing on her side 'just in case.'

Did she not listen to your lungs at your last appointment? lung sounds are definitely useful clues.
I had the exact same thing happen to me!! I sat there, hacking up a lung with a 102 fever while they told me it was "just allergies". Yep, pneumonia. That was 5 years ago and it still makes me so mad!
