Today, I woke up at 3am after 2 hours sleep to get to my 7.40am interview with the Air Force. I went through a full medical check, a psych test and an interview with military personnel, was there for 7 hours with no food and only water to drink, only to be told I wasn't suited to the position I applied for. Woah, okay. Let's go. MEPS - I don't know what the hell this is, but it doesn't exist in Australia. Qualifications - You could have all the qualifications in the world, and still not be suited to a position. It's sad, but it's true. The OP said nothing about qualifications, and pretty sure general entry into the Australian Defence Force only requires you have your High School Certificate. Sleep - Perhaps nerves kept her from getting a good night's sleep. Understandable if this job meant a lot to her. Preparation - Sometimes, no amount of preparation can quell one's nerves, particularly with things of great personal importance. Time - I have had an ADF interview, and on the letter it says the process should take four hours. Also, you have no choice about what time your interview is. Food - The OP obviously believed that it wouldn't take much longer than 4 hours, so didn't feel the need to take any food. When I had mine, there was no food available for interviewees, only tea and coffee. And I, for one, was too worried that I would be called to one of the interviews while I was out if I went to get food somewhere else. OP, FYL.

You went to bed at 1am knowing full well the importance of your interview the next day, and presumably the fact that you'd need to wake up exceptionally early? Wow, how I wish someone put you in the cockpit of multimillion dollar aircraft. That's just what we need. YDI

You had to get up at 3 am to get there by 7:40? How far away do you live?

This is a stupid FML because that is just how the system works. You don't always get the job you want, and now you're dumb for a) expecting that it would, and b) bitching about it on FML. Even if this were a civilian "got up, waited all day, etc...and didn't get the job", that is just how the world works and wouldn't be worth posting on FML. It's not a strange and unfortunate turn of circumstances, it was one of the possibilities you faced regardless. Now I am angry with you for wasting my time.

sucks for you many people go through that dont feel like you were singled out.

Welcome to the real world. Also, if you're complaining about getting up early and not eating...you're probably not suited for the military. Good luck finding something more your style.

I've been there before when I joined the Navy. It sucks, I know, but don't let those bastards win. If you really want to be in the military keep trying.

maybe try joining a real military branch like navy or marines...

Marines and navy are not different branches. Moron.

Navy and Marine Corps are both under the Department of the Navy but are completely separate branches. Look it up if you have to, but next time wait until you're sure before calling people morons.

They feed you lunch but you don't get a choice of when you eat.

I just have to ask why you only got two hours of sleep. When I have important things the next day I usually try to get plenty of sleep and have some sort of snack on me in case I get hungry. YDI for not being prepared....maybe thats why the military rejected you.

So what? If you are going to fail at something, at least fail fast. You know how many people wonder around for years not knowing what to do in life? Strike this job off the list and move on. The World is not going to wait for you to "find yourself".

How do you fail to get accepted to the air force (well any military branch)?

Believe it or not, the military does have standards, and the Air Force is one of the harder ones to get into. Granted, the minimum requirements are pretty low, but there are requirements for even the grunt jobs.

**** the air force. when I talked to a recruiter about taking the ROTC program to become an officer, he made it seem like it was virtually impossible, and made me feel like a dum ass. so I went to talk to the national guard ( for school benifits) and then I'm goin to the army. and Im now in the process of becoming a commisioned officer and I couldn't b happier. the pay is exceptional and u get tons of respect.
