Today, I woke up hungover and thirsty, I found a glass of water next to the sink, filled it up with more water, chugged it and went back to bed. I woke up an hour later to my best friend telling me she thought she lost her contacts. They were in a glass next to the sink. I ate her contacts. FML

I would never drink out of a glass that already was filled with water, especially after a night of drinking with no way to know what the glass contains other than water. Is it normal to even put contacts in a glass of water? I thought that you were only supposed to put them in their containers with the saline solution.

oh gross who keeps their contacts floating in a glass of water?

putting your contacts in plain water causes them to dry out; you need to keep them in special solution for them to keep their flexibility this FML totally isn't plausible, haha

I call b.s. This is a straight from the urban legend library--- and while it COULD happen IF the friend had the same prescription and has the same issues I do with dry contacts at times...But I doubt it. IF the OP did do it: YDI for not getting a fresh cup. Have some common sense man

YDI. When will people start paying attention to what they eat and drink?

To all the people that say 'Nobody would just toss them in a glass' you clearly have never worn contacts, or been in a situation that requires you to be somewhere where you don't have a contact case. Those things stick to your eye and dry out like crazy, then they start hurting. So yeah, people do stick them in glasses sometimes, to get away from that.

#65 is correct. ive had to do it. Sleeping with them in your eyes will **** up your vision over time

Agree with #37 and #63. I was going to call BS on this but you beat me to it.

i'm pretty sure that the best friend prob filled the glass w/ contact solution, which the OP mistook for water. i've done that a lot of times when i forgot my case or didn't have one.

that's too funny! i can so imagine doing that as well.

#65 It looks that *you* have never worn contacts. Do you fully realize that contact lenses are worn directly on the eye? So that the eyes are exposed to possible bacteria and microorganisms over hours and hours? The contamination of the water differs from country to country, region to region, but it isn't worth the risk in any case. Putting contact lenses in water is as stupid as not fastening the seatbelt: It may work, it may even work in most cases, but *if* something happens these silly fools will be crying like babies. But anyway, the good thing is that in this case the person who makes this mistake is the only one who suffers the consequences. It is different with vaccination, where ignorant people risk the lifes of their own offspring as well as those of other children, pregnants, weakened persons etc. If there is the possibility that you have to sleep a night through with contact lenses, simply buy the more expensive variants. Health requires care, you know?
