that's not really surprising, hamsters don't like each other and they will fight to the death. if you're going to own hamsters you need to keep them in different cages or only have one at a time

You can't put 2 male hamsters in the same place. You have to put a male and a female one in the same cage.

Then you will end up with babies and if not the same thing will happen because hamsters meet to breed then they go on their separate ways or kill each other

I know how you feel, My pet rat was killed by my pet hamster who later died of an infection from the incident. I'm sorry for your loss.
