Also, if it's a paper being written in class, then the student may not be able to check how to spell a word that they are uncertain of which I'm sure happens to everyone. But I do agree that if it's being typed, then there's no excuse for mistakes in spelling.
I have had English teachers who didn't care about spelling or grammar if the essay was due the next day
Well, I think we have a comment which sadly summarizes the state of education today
On essays we only got graded down if the number of errors was above a threshold. I really think this is the best solution. If you're focussed on the given task it is okay to make some slips but don't take it as an excuse to be sloppy.
How does this make your life suck? "Some kid in my class is an idiot, woe is me!"
Mrs lee is this you???
Assuming the essay isn't that big of an assignment considering it was homework, this can be a reasonable question. Sometimes students can also just have a typo if they are online too. Obviously student aren't asking this about little words, just small ones. On big assignments or test I would get points off for spelling, but on a little assignment for homework, the important part of the essay is the content of it.
I once misspelled obiest ohbeast in english. I can not tell you how much I was yelled at. -worst part, it was an honest mistake having never come across the word before.
It looks like he'll find out after turning it in...unless he gets the great idea to type it...unless that's against the rules...
He could have a learning disability and can't spell very well until my IEP was put in place I would lose points for bad spelling I knew the words but couldn't spell them and I would fail papers. I have dyslexia and a non verbal learning disorder
the teacher would known if he had an iep teachers in Florida is way noticed about it delt with it 13 years and depending what happened after the question he probably would told her js

I think that's a fair question depending on the class and what kind of teacher you are. Because if the point if the essay was say, structure. You might take the pressure off of them by forgiving a few spelling errors. I know I had teachers in high school that delayed whole exams by a week because the class as a collective didn't feel prepared and wanted more time to study.
If it's a typed essay, there's really no excuse for spelling errors.
