Fortunato_18 tells us more.
Just a couple of points I wanna touch on: 1) the shag rug: haha not my choice! It came with my apartment, where the rug is one of the least awful things about it. 2) I know I should have had the nail polish out of reach, but we were planning on painting my daughters nails as soon as one of us got the chance. She's never done anything like that before so I didn't think to lock it up. We did have a chat about it though, and it hasn't been an issue since (this happened a few weeks ago) 3)Thank you for the removal tips! Hopefully I can find one that works :)

At least you know she's the type to try out new things... Good luck
wow shag carpeting? is this an FML from the past??
Acetone is your friend. FYL
1.Dip a white cloth in clear, fragrance free, non-acetone nail polish remover. 2.Test to ensure it doesn't bleach your carpet by blotting a small amount on a less visible portion of your carpet. If your carpet color transfers to the cloth or the carpet is changed by the cleaner - immediately stop. 3.Blot the white cloth on the stained area. Blot carefully. Don't rub it. Keep going till the stain is gone. Be patient as it may take longer than you think. And remember to keep stuff like this out of your kids reach good luck OP.
before you do this, get a comb and a tissue. Push the teeth of the comb through the tissue a little bit, then stick the comb into the carpet so that the comb is between the polish stain and the carpet base. THEN do as suggested above. the comb and tissue step helps to stop you from rubbing the...
...half-dissolved polish further into the carpet. also, do not be tempted to soak the carpet in polish remover. go slowly with a cloth and a little remover at a time
My daughter did this when she was 6. All the wife and I did was explain to her that if she is going to do it, to use the kit we bought her so that the mess is contained. Kids are fun when they are that little.
I had a similar problem with a stained carpet. I went to my local carpet store with a sample and had them match it up. They installed the missing 1'x1' piece and charged me less than $100 and that included them coming to my house. The piece stood out because it looked newer but after a few months it blended right in where you couldn't tell. (:
Reminds me of the time I was her age and put lipstick all over myself and the walls of our old house. At least I looked pretty haha
