I'm more interested in the people talking about you "lying" to your kids. Really, people? Yes, technically it is a lie, but why is it bad? You're not lying about doing something wrong, or hurting anyone by telling it. If you were really that devastated when you found out about Santa, then you were too young or just too immature to be told. Eight is, in my opinion, a little young to find out, although it makes sense to tell kids around that age. I didn't find out until I was nine, and my brother wasn't told until he was 12 (although he pretty much had it figured out by then, he wasn't stupid).
but if there is a possibility the child is going to end up hurt why even tell the lie at all?
To all the people claiming that it's "lying" to the child, it's not bad at all! If you're crying because you found out that Santa isn't real then you were too young to learn it anyway! I didn't find out until I was 9, and my little sister still writes notes and believes in Santa. She's 12.
I remember a few years ago there was a news story about the same thing.
When I was six my dad got mad at me a couple days before Christmas and told me that Santa wasn't real. I tried not to believe him but it didn't work.
I figured it out when I was three it's not a big deal
this is why we just shouldn't lie to kids to begin with.
what was the point?
At least the teacher didn't tell the kids how babies were made…but that's kinda sad, and funny tbh…but FYL. I learned it when I was in 5th grade...
omg how can a elementary teacher can do an assignment like that and don't feel bad
Kids generally learn the truth at 6 from other students, so it's sad that's she's 8 and didn't know or she's just lying to you to make you feel bad whereas she's a really smart kid

even worse. my 5 year old nephew had the same experience. his teacher had the same assignment and got the whole class in tears because they all still believed in santa
My sisters are ten and they still believe, so that was a major bitchmove.
