Today, my boss's husband came over to our office, and as a by the way comment told our boss my make-up looks good and suits me. The thing is, I've never worn make-up to work, and obviously, he never told his wife, my boss, that she looks good with make-up on. I'm fucked. FML

Today, I had a morning shift at the restaurant and didn't feel like wearing makeup. I was energetic and greeted everyone happily, but my manager told me I looked tired. I said, "Oh no I'm just not wearing makeup!" He said, "Well, you might need it." FML

Today, my boss told me that, while he respects the fact that I have my own style, I have to stop wearing "that hideous wig" because apparently, it "makes the clientele uncomfortable". I don't have a wig. It's my natural hair. FML

Today, I yelled at a new employee for violating the company's makeup policy which is minimum coverage. She had red lipstick, very dark drawn eyebrows, and foundation that made her look like a ghost. She took out a makeup wipe and used it then showed me it, only to reveal she doesn't wear any. FML

That's horrible. I work as a cashier and my boss wouldn't dare to tell any of us employees to wear make up. It's totally up to ourselves. As long as we wear the company uniform and are clean looking, everything is fine. If OP does work with something involving custermers, I couldn't imagine anybody being offende by a woman without make up. But then again custermers tend to get offend by the weirdst things...

Charming. A boss regardless of gender making a comment of that nature is undermining self confidence it may even be considered bullying depending on how the statement was made. Just so long as you are neat, clean and presentable and within company dress code your boss can take their opinion and shove it were the sun don't shine!

Some workplaces require employees to wear makeup in order to fit the image of the company. I don't see why everyone is saying that the boss is rude. This is true in places such as beauty salons and high end designers.
