Today, my boss decided our 4 year relationship was unethical, so she broke up with me, then terminated my employment. FML

Without knowing more about it, I hesitate to offer unsolicited advice, but is there someone you could report this to?

Someone probably found out and turned you two in if she didn't report the relationship in the early stages. That's a huge conflict of interest and could very well have landed both of you jobless. Though... They wouldn't make her break up with you, just terminate you. Do there's probably something in the background going on with her or something you did.

This is a possibility, however if that was the case she wouldn't have had to fire OP as well. Personally, I think the "unethical" thing was just an excuse. She then probably fired OP because she didn't want to have to see him everyday and feel awkward. Completely selfish in my opinion.

#20 I can think of a few things of the top of my head 1. losing their home 2. getting their car/ house broken into 3. losing a family member or friend and 4. finding out that OP'S wrench of a boss gave him some kind of VD, just saying there are a lot of things worse than OP losing his job and getting dumped at least he won't have to waste anymore of his time being with her when she's obviously not wanting to be committed to him.

As soon as I hit post I had a dee of those pop in my mind I was half asleep still when I read this

Personally I think losing someone you've been with and presumably loved for four years and your job in one day is a bit worse than having someone break into your car but otherwise yep

I hope you let your bosses' boss know how unethical it was, and let that person break up with her too.

#21 do you mean fire her to? because unless she was sleeping with her boss above that doesn't really make sense.

3 words; sexual harrasment lawsuit.

#22 I'm going to sue you for jumping straight into OP suing his boss and now ex girlfriend instead of you actually thinking of a better way to handle it first, suing someone should not be the first thing that jumps into people's mind.

What the boss did was patently illegal. Not knowing the other circumstances (was the boss the owner of the company? Is there an HR department to report to?), there is a case to be made for a lawsuit. Interfering with someone's livelihood is a legal issue.

48, we don't know the whole story, but based on what we do know there is grounds for a lawsuit. However, a lawsuit should only be used as a last resort. If OP couldn't get a job anywhere else after several months or something then maybe, but suing should be a last resort.

She has another up and coming BF! It's best you did get terminated.

This is why you never date a coworker

Especially one who has the power to fire you

Ummm hope your boss knows how illegal that is.

#33 that's for sure OP'S boss is the one that needs to be fired not OP.

It's best not to date an employee/boss/coworker, but if they broke up with you it cannot in anyway impact your job. If you were fired call harassment! Get your job back and date someone else!

I think he wanted you fired but couldn't as long as you were his girlfriend. So he ended the relation and then fired you. This is not cool at all. Sorry and hope you find a better job soon.

#38 OP'S Ex is a woman not a man you might want to reread the FML and it's she wanted the relationship to end not she wants the relation to end.
