Today, my boss decided that a mug and a public 'thank you' were a sufficient substitute for a Christmas bonus. FML

At least you got that. Bonuses aren't guaranteed, and some bosses don't recognize their employees' hard work.

I'm sorry OP he might be like Scrooge, damaged at a young age. :/ Anyways, Merry Christmas! :)

Yeah, I find it really hard to be sympathetic with you. Since my unit opened up, I have had 5 bosses in 2 years, none of them which even bothered to know my name, so be to thanked by your boss would would be a nice thing. How is that an FML? I just want for my new boss, number 6, to perhaps to learn my name. And you complain that you got a mug. At least you got something free from the company. I would love to get anything free from the company. Instead I have had to work Christmas Eve an. Christmas Day the past two years. My company doesn't give bonuses. So what makes you so entitled to a bonus? My boss doesn't even know my name. At least yours thanked you and you got Free mug out of if. This is not and FmL. This is a YDI. Don't come here to bitch about not getting a bonus, be happy you have a job, were thanked by upper management, and that you don't have to work Chistmas.

YDI Greedy. Be grateful you even HAVE a job.

Really? Just because there are people on the world who have it worse than the op does, op should not get what she is entitled to? There are plenty of people in Africa without fresh water, does that mean we are not allowed to call the water company and complain if there is something wrong with our water supply? Get off your pretend-high horse. Op probably worked hard for that money (or just worked, we don't know that for sure)...

My dad got a Twinkie and a candy cane, not to forget a dress code to the office "party"

Whether or not YDI depends on how well your company is doing right now. Maybe your boss can't afford to give Christmas bonuses this year. If that were the case, I think a nice mug and a public thank you would be much appreciated. If, however, you're doing quite well and he's being stingy, then FYL. Need more details to judge :P.

Well... Even if the company is doing badly, a little more explanation to the employee would have been nice. AND it still would NOT have been a YDI unless she personally flushed the company's finances down the drain...

So what? You think all businesses can even afford to give out Christmas bonuses? Count your lucky stars and appreciate that you have a job and that you even get a thank you. Not everyone will now down to your hard work.

You got more than I got. A bonus is a bonus not a given! be happy you got something rather than moaning about it.

That's more than I got. In todays economy keeping your job is the new bonus.
