Today, my boss is out of the office and sent me an e-mail asking me to multiply two numbers together and send her the result. Apparently she doesn't know that her smartphone has a calculator app. FML

No, she just wants you to do it, and she wants you to know that she can make you do it. Lots of people who eat at restaurants can cook, but choose to pay someone else to do it for them.

I agree. Boss says "jump", employee jumps. Simple as that.

But then of course, if the employee feels they're not getting paid enough to make it worth their effort, they will find someone willing to pay more.

Did she not have paper and a pencil available?

She was probably checking to see if you are a robot.

Guess she also does not know she can Google the answer, or know how to calculate by hand.
