You can sue for being improperly informed about your laid off and that your boss is mocking you about being laid off. It's kind of illegal.

I thought that firings had to be official. Unless you work for a small company , don't do anything until you hear from HR

It is, it only counts if you get an official notice in writing. That being said, boss said 'being laid off', so the official notice is probably already on the way...
