Today, my boss sent me home from work because she saw me not checking under my customer's cart to see if they had any hidden groceries. I didn't check because the customer threatened to "kick my ass" if I "accused him of stealing" by checking. FML

I kind of doubt that the customer would have "kicked your ass" had you checked. Did you tell your boss about it?

I had a 90 year old woman escorted off the property of the building I work for for refusing to have her bag searched. If your job is to check, it doesn't matter if they want it or not - if a simple "It's required of everybody" doesn't convince them, then there needs to be a plan in place for getting a superior involved. YDI all the way for not doing your job, and I hope you learn your lesson.

I would of told him if he kicked my ass I would of reported him to the authoritys and sued his ass

Do your job its your job for a reason if you can't handle it get a different one. I'm sure our soldiers let terrorists through because they threaten them and judges let off criminals because they are scared of them. That's got to be one of the easiest jobs you can have be a grown up a get it done

Definitely call the manager the next time that happens. It is absolutely NOT appropriate for a customer to threaten you. The grocery stores in my area have mirrors in the check-out lane so you can check the cart from behind the register just by looking at the reflection. Maybe you should suggest that for your store.

YDI, it's your job to check, how do you know they didn't steal anything.
