Today, my boss sent me home from work because she saw me not checking under my customer's cart to see if they had any hidden groceries. I didn't check because the customer threatened to "kick my ass" if I "accused him of stealing" by checking. FML

I kind of doubt that the customer would have "kicked your ass" had you checked. Did you tell your boss about it?

Just like a damn Yankee Liberal. Your type will always cave in and negotiate with a terrorist.

so you all would check even after your life was theartend? uhh i dont think so.

Wow, what kind of asshole threatens to kick a woman's ass? You so didn't deserve that. #74, you're an idiot. There's a difference between someone threatening to kick your ass and threatening to kill you. Think a little.

The correct response is, "I'm sorry, sir, it's policy. I'll get fired if I don't. Would you like me to call a manager to explain our policy?"

All these people need to shut up. I hate when people say what they "would do" in a potentially violent situation...because it isn't true. Maybe that's what you'd like to do, but that's hardly how it plays out. If you find a person intimidating you act in self preseravance. It is human instinct. And plenty of times have I heard someone say "if someone did that I would kick their ass!" or "if he did that to me I'd call the cops". Maybe AFTER the fact. So OP, I think you made the right move. And if anything you could challenge your boss for having to work in a hostile work environment!

And just because YOU would act the same as the OP doesn't mean other people would have. I have been in similar and in way more intimidating situations, I still kept my cool, and I'm no Schwarzenegger, not even close, or the bravest person alive.

where I used to work, we were "strongly encouraged" to listen to the customer. if we didn't, the customer would complain and we'd get suspended. we werent allowed to refuse service, we had to listen to the customer.

ydi for not checking anyway, that's the rules. the customer was wrong for saying that, but you were more wrong, you are in control. should have called manager in first place.

That's a reason to check. YDI.

Ydi, you should check. It's your damn job and what can the customer do? If he had tried anything he would have been thrown out.
