Today, my boss showed me a two-page letter from a customer, complaining about me because I couldn't honor a coupon that expired in 2009. He agreed that I did the right thing by refusing it, but said it would be a black mark on my record anyway due to the complaint. FML

In these situations, you'll never win. Damned if you do, damned if you don't! Sorry OP.

This is why I do not work in the retail industry.

A black mark under your boss's eye wouldn't been better I'm sure. Tough luck OP. fyl.

I meant to say " would've"...damned auto correct!

Time to find a new job!!!! F*** that manager.

Oh the joys of working retail, we get customers making things up to complain about all the time because our policy is complaint equals £10 voucher, regardless of whether the complaint was actually true or not. Thankfully my manager trusts us when we say the customer has made stuff up though, otherwise we would all be in trouble by now.

Don't you just love the logic of "the customer is always right (even when they're horribly wrong)"? Ugh. I hope there's some way to contest the black mark on the record...very strange way your boss chose to handle this! :C

It's hard to tell whether YDI or not because we don't know what else happened during the interaction between you and the customer. Well, to give you the benefit of the doubt, FYL.

Your boss is a moron..... Time to find a new job. ?

Why is it that a lot of bosses/managers absolutely have no clue how to be leaders. That kinda crap certainly doesn't motivate or set a positive in the work place. If you can go over him, to his supervisor, I'd file a complaint. Otherwise it will continue until your fired for doing a good job.

sounds like you either work retail or at a supermarket at either rate I feel your pain I had worked at a Walmart for 6 years and was called a coupon Natzi by a customer

You make jobs sound so fun, you get ****** no matter what you do.
