YDI 100%. if he has never fired a rifle before and did not know anything about it why the hell did you give him a LOADED rifle to practice with. its a wonder he didnt kill somebody.
Amen!
and that is why the right for anyone to keep and bear arms was a mistake. not everyone is cut out to own a gun. my evidence - your nose. next time leave the boyfriend in the coin laundry (where he can't possibly get into trouble unless he improperly uses a dryer) and enjoy your time at the range :)
Um, this isn't even about owning a gun. It clearly wasn't the boyfriend's gun. It was probably the OP's or rented from the shooting range if they went to one. The government doesn't give anyone the right to bear arms. You had that already. Governments by definition cannot give rights to anyone; only take them away.
I never said it was the shooter's gun. I was suggesting the owner find another activity for her boyfriend while she enjoys her time on the range. and governments do grant rights - by limiting freedom. consider this, I have the freedom to take all your stuff. but I do not have the right. why? because the government says theft is illegal. so you have the right to your property at the expense of my freedom to take it. meanwhile, I have the same rights to my stuff at the expense of your freedom to take my stuff. it's a social contract. Thomas Hobbes version of it anyway. man has unlimited freedom but no rights in a natural state (which he defines as no government authority - such as the world cavemen lived in). we, as a society, trade some freedom for rights. Locke had it a bit different, but said that without a government people would have no security in their rights (which he believed we just have by nature of being human).
I'm going to say YDI for letting your boyfriend, who is clearly inexperienced and/or a moron, hold a loaded gun. Sorry about your nose, though. I'm pleasantly surprised that most of the people in the comments are pro-common sense when it comes to guns, and there are only a handful of idiots saying negative things about them. But what's with all the negative comments about COD? I became interested in firearms because of COD after never shooting a gun before. lol
As someone who's pretty solidly middle-ground when it comes to guns, I have to say, stories like the OP's definitely make me worry about gun control. I don't mean people shouldn't be allowed to own them--not that that could ever happen in the US, anyway!!--but for God's sake, you've got a girl who's teaching someone using a LOADED gun, and you've got a guy who's ******* stupid enough to accidentally pull a trigger?! That's terrifying! What if someone else had been standing there and had been shot? Again, not trying to take anyone's rights away--but we go through tests and safety courses when learning to drive a car, why not do the same when learning to handle guns? I agree that both can be quite safe when used responsibly, but the problem is, obviously they aren't always used responsibly.
A lot of states require safety courses in order to obtain a handgun carry permit. Also, a lot of shooting ranges won't allow people without any experience to shoot. But does everyone who drives have a license or appropriate training? You can't stop stupid people from doing stupid things all the time.
YDI. There is something called a safety. Use it.
Somebody obviously forgot about safety...
the weapon was loaded, cocked and the safety off?!?!? how stupid can you be. you were asking for that one, dumbass!
i thought you weren't allowed to shoot guns in the kitchen?
