Today, my boyfriend and parents went out to dinner. As we started the meal, my boyfriend proposed and the restaurant burst into applause. My mother said without hesitation and a large scowl, "If you say yes, I'm leaving." FML

Hi, FMLer here. The reason my mother said that was because she wanted me to get back together with my first boyfriend, though I've been with my new fiance for 5 years. She never got over me leaving my first and never accepted anyone after. And as you might have noticed in my previous paragraph- I said yes! (And by the way, my father told my mother if she leaves, he'd stay and wouldnt give her the car keys. ;) )

Wow that sucks.....your mama is'a bitch. Well I hope you said yes.

I wish my mom had the courage to object to my marriage. 13 years of ******* hell and no end in sight. We have a child that I love so much that tolerate the vicious, soul-crushing harpy. You really might want to find out what your mom thinks and at least weigh it in your ultimate decision.

HAHA, #37, yeah, that's what men with big penises say; they go 'round explaining away their obnoxious behavior by telling people what's in their pants. I'd guess you probably won't even show it to anyone because you're scared someone will laugh at how tiny and unimpressive it is. :) Good luck with that raging case of low self-esteem.

Unfortunately, that sounds like my mom. FYL.

your dad rocks and your mom needs to get over your first. way to go for not letting your mom's behavior get to you tho.

@130 I don't know about that, I've always wanted to be proposed to in public! *shrug* Congrats to the OP though, and don't worry about your Mum, if this is what truely makes you happy, then she'll come around. Out of curosity, did you ever tell your Mum why you broke up with your first b/f?
