If you don't want to shave or anything and you want to keep the hair, keep it! Also your math is a little off. You're 33, not 38. So you haven't been shaving for 23 years.

Steph is right, which is how I remember things being. It is preference as to what people chose to shave/trim/leave etc. Yes, their partner might have a different preference, and that's what compromise is for. It might also be that the OP's bf doesn't actually mind hair down there, but just thought he was being funny.
