Today, my boyfriend informed me via text message that he had moved to Bristol, and the reason he had ignored me the past fortnight was because he didn't know how to tell me. He knew he was moving even before we even got together. FML

In British English, people would almost always say fortnight instead of two weeks. We think it's odd that Americans find it cute.

Even before you even? Are you even from tumblr even?

Funny, moving to Bristol really isn't such a bad thing; I've lived there for 17 years and I'm doing alright.

:O There are other Bristolians on here!

It's only about 180 miles from Doncaster to Bristol. Here in Texas, we call that "The morning commute."

ydi for actually using fortnight in a sentence. archaic English ftl

Not archaic English, just British English. Fortnight is a perfectly normal word here.

Fortnight? Who uses that term..just say two weeks

Since when was fortnight a strictly British term? Jesus, Americans...

It is rarely used in modern American English, or at least much less commonly than in British English. So yeah, it kind of is exclusive to Britain.

that's what you get for using words like "fortnight".

Wtf? Fortnight is a frequently used word. And ye, your bf sounds like a moron.

Can you travel to Bristol as well? If not Skype there is always a way...
