Let me explain. I'm NOT saying what happened in the FML is abuse, but the early sign of an abuser. Typically an abuser will "test" or "condition" his victim with little put downs or humiliations like this that push the envelope but can be overlooked as a "joke". Next move would be to isolate her - marriage would do the trick. Then it escalates once she's trapped. It's a well documented pattern.
