Actually an anniversary is the celebration of a certain date a yearly occurance of the date of past event (found on dictionary.com) If your description was true there would be no death anniversaries or businesses celebrating their opening on the same date every year or annual festivals. People can have anniversaries for whatever they want you are not the anniversay police.
