Today, my boyfriend snuck into my house and hid in my closet. Knowing that I have a phobia of people jumping out of closets, he nonetheless thought it would be funny to see how I'd react. I had a panic attack and was taken to the hospital. FML

Today, I finally told my boyfriend that I see a therapist every week because, amongst other things, I'm terrified of being locked in a room. He didn't believe me, so he locked me in the bathroom "for a laugh." I had a panic attack and passed out. FML

Today, when I got up for work, I went into the bathroom and saw a coat hanger sitting in the crack of the window. I had a panic attack, thinking someone had tried to break in and grabbed a knife. I ran into the room where my boyfriend was sleeping and he said he put it there. FML

Today, I was woken up by the sound of someone in my room. I started freaking out, thinking someone had broken in, so I kicked them, only to realise it was my boyfriend coming back from the toilet. I'd forgotten he was staying over. FML

Sorry, OP! Panic attacks suck. It sounds like your panic attacks are pretty severe if you had to be taken to the hospital, though...You might consider seeking help for that. It's certainly helped me!

err... that's not a phobia. that word is over used. a phobia is an irrational fear, like clowns, or balloons. not someone jumping out at you. that's just being scared/ not liking people scaring you or making you jump. that's not really an irrational fear.... is it....?

err... She had a panic attack and had to go the hospital. I'm pretty sure that's a phobia. And if a phobia can only be an irrational fear, then please explain arachnophobia and such. Of course, it's natural to be scared of spiders, it's a defense mechanism, but I'm talking about the extreme version. The actual phobia. You're right, the word is overused, but you need to make sure you don't underuse it either.
