To be fair If I was you're teacher and A student said "My brother set fire to my homework" I would be suspicious. However I reckon the teacher should give you a few days extension
Maybe don't hold the paper so close to the flame.
That could actually be a believable excuse. It's a shame it didn't work.
"The Guiana pig ate my homework" didn't fly either, even though I had the chewed up remains to show my teacher.
