it's all about culture and dinner manners
I think that he should purchase one for you if he really is so concerned. However, it makes no sense to spend that much money on Renos and still have a plastic table.
This was confusing in the beginning, sentence structure just made it difficult to understand. At first I thought the "ordered" meant that he like purchased the kitchen table himself for the OP online. Then I realized it meant "ordered" as in demanded or commanded. In any case, you're an adult and it's your house, he can't demand you spend your own money like that, it's your budget not his. If your father is so worried about something as simple as a table, that's pretty materialistic. And he can either satisfy his superficial standards, by buying one himself with his own money, or have the cousins at his home.
If he's really that concerned then let him host visiting family at his house. Really, are they there to visit you or your kitchen table?
It's hard to know who is the most foolish: The daughter who spends $30,000 on home renovations but eats off a plastic card table? Or the father who "orders" his adult daughter not living with him to get a new table?
The way I'm reading it is the renovations aren't finished yet. Or they are, but now she is saving up to furnish it. Renovating can take a long time especially if you are doing it yourself. It took my parents close to a year to renovate their kitchen themselves, and more than that when they did the master bathroom. It might also be that she's not planning to furnish it because she's planning to sell the house once the renovations are done.
Check your spelling mate.
Frankly , I'm surprised it passed moderation.
#51 Check your grammar, mate
Why would you spend 30k if you didn't even buy a table?

Why would you spend $30k to renovate your house, but not budget enough money to furnish it with at least basics? Not that your dad is rightly any means, but maybe you should've allocated that money a bit better. I mean, it's great to have a beautifully renovated house. But not if it's empty.
A simple wooden table for 6 is probably $500... I'm sure you could fit that into the $30,000... But not sure what's the FML... So both FYL and YDI
clearly you have not had to go out and purchase a table... or any furnishings. Unless you're buying off kijiji or some other online classified ads and really looking through them for awhile you're not finding a sturdy wooden table for 6 people at $500. Hell most decent chairs ate around $80-$100 each unless you're really hunting for deals
I did say table, I did not say set. Cheapest sturdy chairs I've seen are for 20. Try looking for wholesalers next time you shop, they're better priced than a store a named brand store.

there are so many things going on here
If you're gonna spend/care that much about your house, why would you still have a plastic table?
