Today, my dad came over and ordered me, a 43 year-old woman, to purchase a kitchen table. He and my sisters are embarassed that we are still using a plastic folding table. It doesn't matter to them that we have just spent over $30,000 on renovations. His cousins are coming from Italy. FML

Its simple, tell him to go out and buy you one. Tell him it will be like an early Easter present from him to you. If he says no then he's an asshole.

You can get a REALLY good table at Salvation Army. I found a wonderful table for only $10, then refurbished it myself. Striped, sanded, stained, and varnished the whole thing myself.

Plot twist. Same post just 2 years later. And the part where OP says they are "still using" plastic table sounds like renovations has been a little while. So, wondering why they didn't allocate money to a new table. But I mean it's their life so the dad shouldn't be bothering
