I know someone who had a similar problem. She works with rather 'mature' illustrations to make money (mainly nude imagery and nothing more). A lot of times, her clients request the original sketch in the mail for an extra few dollars. Well, her mother-in-law stopped by for a surprise visit while she was at work, snooped through her office, found the pictures, and put them through the shredder. I don't know what was louder that day--the drama from the mother-in-law over her drawing 'dirty pictures while being married', or the drama from her for the mother-in-law invading her privacy and destroying work commissioned by clients, dirty or not. It's always interesting to see non-art people and art people clash.

Dude. Drawing nude pictures has no pornagraphic quality unless intended to do so. Most of them wouldn't arouse a sex-deprived 15 year old boy. And it's required if you want to be a good artist.

You're right about the Chinese government though.

Sigh. I lived that life for 18 years. I used to hate that feeling of being spied on. It was like being in a fish bowl. Some parents do the room searches when they think their kid is a shit and they're going to catch the kid with something that proves their point. If they don't find any 'contraband' they'll take something innocent, like the nudes, and twist it into something bad to meet their criteria and justify their action. And what kind of father knows so little about his child that he cannot connect the fact that he found nude sketches in the child's room with the fact that the child is taking a drawing class? This reminds me so much of my own parents. They didn't know what classes I was taking or my major in college but they knew if I so much as treated myself to a new lipstick or changed tampon brands. This FML greatly saddens me.
