Today, my daughter's obsession with Canada got out way of hand when she was suspended for climbing up the flagpole, in an attempt to replace the flag with a red-and-white maple leaf one. FML

OP here. I made an account so I could follow up. For those of you doubting my parenting: in my household, no banshee-like deed goes unpunished. Yes, this was a school suspension, for those unsure, and it was three weeks, which is pretty reasonable. Sadly, this is a continuation jr. high school for kids who've been permanently expelled (I'm surprised no one asked why she's still in school during the summer), where banshee-like behaviors such as this are not rare.

She has passion for something that's not drugs or sex. Be proud.

You had one job as a parent OP... Keep her off the pole. And you just couldn't do that, now could you?

What is it about Canada? I'm a little obsessed myself. All the cool people seem to originate there ( I don't care for Bieber but whatever.)

Thanks for the kind words. We are all pretty dang cool up here eh.

At least it's an Awsome country to obsessed with :) the national food is fries with gravy and cheese! How do you top that?!

Fries with gravy and cheese? That sounds delicious depending on the type of gravy.

That sounds delicious, although not sure of you are telling the truth.

First of all it's called poutine and it the cheese that makes it awesome it must be St. Albert cheese curds

#125 - Oh, it's true enough. And there's a lovely franchise call Smoke's Poutinerie. In addition to the cheese curds and gravy, you can get a plethora of other delicious toppings (bacon, pulled pork, etc.)

Assuming it was your own flag pole with your own USA flag, you seem to be obsessed with the USA yourself. I mean, you have your own flag out and you say something about her obsession with Canada? This comment is probably going to be thumbed down a lot by your fellow overly chauvinist Americans though.

Well, given the fact that this likely took place at an American public school, I don't think an American flag on a property that is essentially owned by the US government is indicative of an obsession.

Oh yeah, I missed the opening line of your comment somehow. The FML says the daughter was suspended. I'm assuming that this "suspension" was from school and not a flag pole line. Therefore, no OP did not own the flag or flag pole. Your argument is invalid.

Even if it were their own flag and flag pole, why is it wrong to fly the flag of your country IN your country?

#97 - Oh yeah, I missed that somehow. probably partly because I'm not used to flag poles at schools, here in Belgium there are only flag poles at government buildings. #186 - I didn't say it's wrong, just that it's overly chauvinistic. Yes, it's nice to be proud of your country, but why would you need to brag about your patriotism every minute of the day?

@271 You consider flying your country's flag to be bragging about your patriotism every minute of the day? I'm sorry, but that's a ridiculous notion. I'm curious as to what kind of patriotism is "acceptable" to you.

She does realize how flagpoles work, right? She didn't have to climb it.

You do realize that public flagpoles are often locked, right?

This is the best. It's actually rather funny being Canadian and reading things like this. Canada rocks guys.

Right?! I love being Canadian! My dad is an American and I could get citizenship over there, but I really don't want to; Canada rocks!

I have a friend who is obsessed with USA.... It gets freaky some times
