Today, my daughter's obsession with Canada got out way of hand when she was suspended for climbing up the flagpole, in an attempt to replace the flag with a red-and-white maple leaf one. FML

OP here. I made an account so I could follow up. For those of you doubting my parenting: in my household, no banshee-like deed goes unpunished. Yes, this was a school suspension, for those unsure, and it was three weeks, which is pretty reasonable. Sadly, this is a continuation jr. high school for kids who've been permanently expelled (I'm surprised no one asked why she's still in school during the summer), where banshee-like behaviors such as this are not rare.

She has passion for something that's not drugs or sex. Be proud.

You had one job as a parent OP... Keep her off the pole. And you just couldn't do that, now could you?

If your daughter isn't proud to be an American, then she's free to leave!

Is it bad I read this and immediately thought of Mario?

I am Canadian:). I also have the pleasure of dealing with Americans daily where I work. I feel bad saying this but for the most part, I prefer Canadians. It may be that most calls I receive are from the not so smart ones. I do realize Canadians can be dumb as well but it is just something that I noticed is that we are more understanding. I don't mean to offend anyone.

Canadians are American. Just from a different part of North America.

As a Canadian living in the US...it's not only the stupid ones...

I'm American, and at my old job about half the customers were Canadian. They were generally really rude and not too bright...looks like you can find jerks on both sides of the border.

Or they were acting stupid so you could understand them.

Interestingly I live in a town in Montana that is somewhat near the border and we have a lot of Canadians come here in the summer to shop... Since the exchange rate is so good for them. Not that this was ALWAYS true, but more often than not, the Canadians that came into the beauty supply I used to work for were very rude and demanding. Like I was supposed to go way out of my way to do them a favor because they were Canadian. Not to mention they have notoriously caused destruction in our town during their holidays when they come here to party. So they don't have the greatest reputation here.

I think this is general behavior for people acting like that when not in their home country. It would certainly explain all the trouble we are having with tourists in general...

You raised your child right then, good sir!

Send your daughter to Canada. She can take my place. I will happily move to SoCal and give her my place in Ontario. She doesn't even need to finish high school she can just go on welfare because apparently we hand it out to anyone who asks. I hear Tim Hortons is hiring.

Sadly, America also hands out welfare to anyone who asks for it. Or at least in my part of the country it does.

Amen 154. While I love this country, we definitely have a tendency of helping out the lowest common denominator, while forgetting about everyone else...

It seems that way here too. Then again, it's the scammers that you hear about and the low life's that blow their food stamps on lobster. The hardworking people who genuinely need help are the majority, but they blend in with everyone else.

Apparently none of you have ever been actually poor...there are those who milk the system of course but the distribution of wealth in both countries is ridiculously disturbing. When people are hungry or the sick are going without medication because they can't afford it? I don't care what country you're in, it's inhumane. And it's happening in both, btw. Excepting chick above me, she seems to get it ;)

Maybe set her up with some sort of foreign exchange, get it out of her system
