Kat_Styles tells us more.
Hey, OP here. So as a quick update, there are several things I want to add. 1. My dentist was 65, very healthy, and his passing was very unfortunate. But now he's with his wife, who passed away from breast cancer about three years ago. 2. It says 'Employee' at the top because my mother was one of his dental hygienists, and I had worked for him as a secretary for a few months before he died. 3. The dental hygienists in the office obviously started CPR right away. They even shocked him twice, but he wasn't responding to anything. Paramedics took him away in an ambulance, but nothing they did was successful. It's quite ironic because my dentist always used to joke that he required his hygienists to have lots of CPR training, etc, because he was the one who was going to need it. We always thought he was kidding, but unfortunately, that was exactly what happened. 4. For those of you saying 'she deserved it' or 'why didn't she start CPR,' or 'her breath killed him lol,' understand a few things. One, I don't see how I deserved it, but that's your opinion. Two, I'm 19, I don't know how to perform CPR, and within a minute, there were three certified, trained, professionals tending to him. Three, even if it was possible to kill someone with your breath, my mom is a dental hygienist. My teeth are quite nice, if I do say so myself. Thanks for all your nice messages, and I hope you never have to experience something as terrible as I did.

Could've been your gynecologist....

I imagine people would think you "deserved it" for going to the dentist in the first place... I don't know.. I can't really defend idiot's..
She's not saying she's too young be certified. She said she doesn't know HOW to do it
So you don't take care of your teeth in other words? Nasty ass
I meant the people who said she deserved it for clarification.. Lol
Congrats. Would you like an award.? We don't care
y'all are so negative! leave her alone, shes nineteen, a dentist died while taking care of her, cut her some slack. OP - hope you never have to experience that ever again.. at least youve got nice teeth! use them to smile at the haters. xx
Shut up
Listen #121 if you don't care then this is the wrong place for you. Go be a Jack ass Bitch somewhere else.
When people say you deserved it I don't think they actually mean it there just being dicks
you had a dead person in your mouth :')
I agree with everything except the part where you said you were 19 and so you don't know CPR. That's a shitty excuse. I've known CPR since I was 14, so don't pull the age card with that one.
#127, don't lie, and your being a bitch
I am 19 also and knew how to perform CPR when I was 10, you're age is not an excuse though
Just know that it wasnt your fault and it was his time. dont let the experience traumatize you, hope you have been getting on well since the incident
Uhm yea people do care, can't u see the amount of negative likes u got? lool..
For all of the jackasses say that they're so and so age and know how to do CPR so it's no excuse, I'm 18 and don't know how to do CPR. It's not age thing. Not everyone has taken a CPR certification class, and if you don't know how to properly do CPR you shouldn't do it because you could make things worse. Open your minds a little bit. And when someone dies it's not everyone's first instinct to take action. sometimes people just freak out.
Wow that is a rough experiance to go thru hope your doing ok and there is nothing wrong with seeing someone to talk with about it. If you need it that is. I
being 19 isn't an excuse to not know CPR, I was 8 when I first learned CPR and have been recertified every 2-3 years since then... regardless, what happened to you sucked!
Even if she DID know CPR, by the time she'd composed herself the officials would be there anyway! Sorry to hear about the dentist. RIP
omg, shut up about the age thing, y'all. some schools don't offer CPR classes, some people don't have the skills, such as OP. also, those of you who claim to have known CPR since age 7, have a man f*cking die with his hand in your mouth & see if you can handle the pressure of the moment and perform CPR properly. Exactly. You can't.
Everyone aged 15+ should know how to do CPR..
I'm sorry that happened to you. As you experienced first hand, CPR does not always work like it does on TV and in the movies. He had the best chance he could with almost immediate CPR and defibrillation. I've been a paramedic for 10 years and I can count on 1 hand the number of meaningful (walk out of the hospital and have a somewhat normal life after) Cardiac arrest recoveries I've had. I encourage everyone I know to learn CPR, but I don't fault you for not knowing it.
It's not her fault for not knowing CPR. I'm certain that if OP had known CPR, she would have helped the poor man.. This is in no way her fault. There's no point in being ugly.
She did say, "I'm 19, I don't know how to perform CPR," which does sound like she's saying she's too young to know CPR.
My comment above was directed at #118 and I'm not criticizing OP for anything that happened (that must have been a terrible experience), just saying it did sound, from what OP wrote, like she thought 19 was too young to know CPR.
umm FYI to all you rude asses. Im almost 28 and have no clue how to perform CPR. So all of you can **** off with your judgemental attitudes!
Not to be rude or anything But I was CPR certified by the time I was 14
she said she didn't know how to do it. she didn't say she was too young
age of getting cpr certified doesnt mean shit. what does is your capacity to do it right and im pretty sure anyone most people at age 10 to 14 dont have the upper body strength to get the proper depth of compressions nor be able to continually do it until others with training arrive. Although exceptions do happen.
Not sure what you being 19 has to do with knowing CPR. There's no age requirement for that.
Lifeguards such as myself train for hours to be able to do CPR right...
She stated she was 19 and didn't know how. That implies she believes the age is a factor. I'd guess she thinks CPR training is only done in college health care based courses. Which is totally false. You need to read and comprehend before making a comment. Those stating she's pretty old enough are correct and have basis for stating so.
You're 19, worked in healthcare, your mom is in healthcare, and you don't know CPR???? I took a course when I was 12 so I could go babysit; what if something happened to the kid? You drive, don't you? In some countries it's required that you take an emergency care course to be eligible to get your license, it's appalling that it's not required in the US. CPR is something everyone should learn as soon as they are able. Not to is just gross negligence imho. Get on it OP, ASAP. In other news, I'm sorry that happened, I've been spared an experience like this, fortunately, but I can imagine how scary it must be. my condolences.
#127 Bitch, sit the **** down with our lying ass.
Bullshit
Bullshit
To everyone who keeps saying that she should have been certified for CPR at 19, if someone had literally just dropped dead with their hands in your mouth, do you think you'd be able to compose yourself and start chest compressions before someone equally or more qualifies showed up? Y'all need to chill
I swear if one more person says "I learned CPR when I was 10" or "age is not an excuse", I'm going to bitch slap someone. No one gives a **** as to when you were certified.
Most people in the UK never learn CPR, unless they become a first aider at work or similar. I'm doubting it's even as common in the USA as people seem to be suggesting. And yay for all of us commenting on a 2 year old FML thanks to the follow up appearing on the app :)
Poor OP. Knowing and working for the guy makes it even more of a personal tragedy. Regardless of that I don't understand why at 19 she doesn't know at least the basics of first aid. Here in Germany you're required to attend and pass first aid training if you want to get your driving license. So I attended my first course when I was 15 to get the small motorbike license. What I haven't done though is get recertification every couple years, probably should start doing that because every year they find out new things they can teach you...
For those saying she should know CPR blah blah blah, she actually said that there was already several people working on him. Even if she had known cpr, how would that have helped? Chin up OP, seeing someone die in front of you is horrific and traumatising.
**** off you little bitch. do you even have a mind? if you went through that experience and somebody said that to you. what would you think? so **** off you nasty old hag
I knew cpr at 14
193 how is that relevant in any way?
I doubt she was using her age as an excuse. But at the same time she has had less time available to her to be properly trained.
My god read before you say something she said she DIDNT know how it has nothing to do with the age OP, i am so sorry for the idiotic comments left behind by these incompetent readers
Damn that must've been somewhat of a traumatic experience. I never learned CPR either (my school never taught it and it never really crossed my mind to have to learn it, not blaming age here, just blaming the lack of anyone/anything really stressing the importance and usefulness of knowing it besides being a life guard ) I hope your dentist is in a better place and that nothing like that happens to you again.
Maybe you could use this as an incentive to take CPR training. Even at 19, knowing emergency first-aid is a great skill to have, and looks good on a resume too.
please don't worry about people saying what you should have done or that you deserve it, for every post there are those kind of comments even when absolutely clearly the person has done nothing to deserve it. watching someone die is a traumatic experience and much worse that you knew him
it makes me so angry people keep saying such negative stuff. id imagine they would do the same in your situation. not everyone has to learn cpr but its a good thing to know. its good people were there to try to help him. im sorry you had to experience something that scary :( !!
I am 13 and know CPR
Hi! I'm 15 and dont give two craps!
145 made my day hahahah
I mean I don't want to be rude but I'm 16 and I'm CPR certified.. Just to point out that someone younger than you found it possible so therefore your reasoning of "I'm only 19" doesn't really work.
Wow, omg that is so impressive you are so amazing clearly everyone wants to know about your personal life and skills. Please, do continue, what else makes you so awesome and cool? We are dying to know.
Ugh bitch!
its funny how people keep saying their age and how they know cpr. some people dont have time for that it doesnt make you special if you know it or not.
That sucks. I know it's kinda weird the first time you see somebody die, even more so when it's someone you know. Don't dwell on it though, from the way it's worded, even had you intervened, he, in all likelihood, would've died anyway

Going to the dentist was bad enough as it is :/
