Today, my dog was diagnosed with depression. I got him to help with my depression. I guess we can just be miserable together. FML

Or you can cure each other. Make each other happy. Dogs feed off of your emotions.

Maybe you can help each other fight your depression.. Good luck, OP! I love dogs too and I find it sad that it was diagnosed with depression.

You know the old saying, "misery loves company".

Every dog has its day, hopefully you both will.

Aweee poor thing. I hope both of you get better.

Cheer up, OP! You guys can go do stupid shit together! That always cheers me up! Well it's more of laughing at other people doing dumb shit, but it's all the same:you'll still be laughing!

What kind of a doctor do you see if you think your pet is depressed?

I'd like to meet the vet who "diagnosed" the dog with depression...

I think others have talked about the importance of routine, exercise and socialization for a happy dog but I'd also like to throw diet out there. OP needs to look at what their dog is eating on a daily basis - is it Beneful, Kibbles 'n Bits, Old Roy, Pedigree or another similar brand? Low quality pet food contains sugar, chemicals for colors/flavors/preservatives/textures, major allergens, little to no protein, animal and grain by-product, and cheap, unhealthy fats - that's just the beginning of the horrors of the pet food industry. Combined with structured exercise and mental stimulation, a nutritious diet will do wonders for his emotional wellbeing. Don't be fooled by big companies like Science Diet, Iams and Eukaneuba. They are far from anything a vet should recommend.

I feed my 7 month old lab blue buffalo. A bit pricey but one the best you can feed. It really makes a diference in the health of your pet.

While Blue Buffalo is better than the brands I listed it's not quite one of the best. They add caramel and salt to several formulas, have very low protein content, tend to be starch/grain heavy, mix low quality and good quality oils to cut corners.. There's no clear definition/regulation of the term holistic in pet food so companies like Blue Buffalo use it to their advantage, too. The best quality kibble available on the market, in my opinion, is Acana/Orijen. I don't mind Go!/Now!, Fromm, Wellness and Nature's Variety but a company can crash in the blink of an eye. For example, Evo/Innova used to be a top brand boasting all the right stuff but Proctor and Gamble got their grimey, animal testing hands on it.

We're on our second bag of blue puppy. I was actually thinking about switching to acana. A trainer I know said its pretty good. And it's cheaper than blue where I'm from. Do you work in the pet business somehow?

poor puppy...oh right and you of course:P

My dog was depressed when his dog buddy died, for months. Your dog needs dog company!
