It makes sense that a curious eight-year-old would do that, since most schools don't teach about electromagnetic radiation to younger kids. At least the kid is trying to learn :) That's a very good sign.
You are totally right, but this is causing a dilemma for me. What to vote for now? [Your life sucks]...? Not really, because the kid is awesome. [You deserve it]...? Not really, because how can I now that OP actually deserves such a smart and interested kid?

Your kid might cure cancer one day. Good science isn't always popular, popular science isn't always good.
Well, did it?
Ah, the classic fake sick. I guess you know who's looking to skip school
Encourage your child's curiosity, but get him or her to run experiments by you first! Recently, I checked the temperature of some chicken I was baking. I put the pan back into the oven. When I took it out again a little while later, I'd baked the meat thermometer that I'd left stuck into the chicken. The plastic cover on the dial was now a BIG cloudy bubble. I'm 50 years old instead of 8!
they are a dollar, and I would think my 8yr old was pretty smart and sell sufficient

I'd say it's a good scientific curiosity your child has.
