Today, my family savagely mocked me to the point of tears, all for using "big", "fancy" words like "accommodations" and "hospitality". FML

look at all the big fancy accomodations that you require in order to function. the hospitality is unfathomable.

My first thought was "probably lives in a southern state..." yep. Texas.

Lol I had to write an analysis on a narrative with a father daughter relationship exactly like that.

Everything's bigger in Texas. Except the vocabulary.

People act like that towards me at my new job because I supposedly use big words. They keep calling me the 'undercover boss' and make references to the show.

"It behooves us to avoid archaisms. Never use a long word when a diminutive one will do." "Speak properly, and in as few words as you can, but always plainly; for the end of speech is not ostentation, but to be understood." Most peoples vocabularies are lacking, sadly.

Just ignore them OP, everyone knows rednecks aren't very smart.

Sorry OP. My family's done that on multiple occasions-- I feel like they have no control as to what they say, and they do it to annoy me purposely. :/

As another user of big words I deal with the same issue.

Aren't Texans all about hospitality?

Most of us are, but there's always one asshole who makes the rest of us look bad
