Hey all OP here. Thanks for all the kind words. For those wondering, I gave my flatmate my blessing. The guy and I dated for a little while but it didn't work out, for him at least. I still harbour feelings for him but want them both to happy. Still sucks though.

I hate to say this but maybe you should have made a move before. It's like complaining about not getting a job you didn't even apply for. If you did make a move and he wasn't interested you should try to move on.

Even though I feel bad for you and think you should get noise cancelling headphones, I think you kind of deserve it if you never did anything to get your crush to go out with you. Good guys finish last because they don't do anything. So be that 'good guy', but be proactive too.
