No, it's not a bad name at all, but it is slang for butt, and apparently, according to other commenters, ******, depending on where you live, and kids will make fun of everything these days. Sure, if they don't name her Fanny, they will probably find something else to make fun of, but it's really a terrible thing to hate your name, you know?

I really don't see the problem, given the FML is set in France. It's a very common name here, and it doesn't have any gross meaning in french.

Fanny is usually short for Frances so just make sure Frances is what goes on the birth certificate. Then your wife can call her Fanny but when she is older if she doesn't like it or gets teased she can use her full name.
